French Language Courses

French as a Foreign Language at Montpellier SupAgro

ONLINE TEST (free of charge)

All non-French speaking applicants must take an online French language test designed by Montpellier SupAgro’s French Language Centre. It is a 2-hour test which takes place on a secure server. The French language requirements depend on the study programme the student is applying for. Test results are submitted to the Admissions Committee and are kept as part of the applicant’s academic records.


SUMMER SCHOOL "AGRI-CULTURES" (optional and fee-paying)

French language lessons combined with cultural and technical activities in July and a farm internship in August. See the Agri-Cultures page for further information.


INTENSIVE COURSES (free of charge)

Two-week intensive courses (30 class hours) are offered three times a year (in early September, November and January).

Goal: Intensive language training in French as a Foreign Language for international students to develop scientific and technical vocabulary essential for course work.

Organisation: The intensive French courses are offered two weeks before the start of scientific courses. The focus is on acquiring scientific vocabulary and becoming familiar with procedures for opening bank accounts, fulfilling administrative formalities, etc.


A WEEKLY LESSON (free of charge)

Two class hours per week are scheduled for international students during their period of study at Montpellier SupAgro. French is their main foreign language (LV1). The ECTS credits are awarded following the successful completion of the course.

Goal:  Language training in French as a Foreign Language to enable international students to improve their linguistic proficiency and gain cultural knowledge in order to integrate successfully in France.

Organisation: Two class hours are scheduled weekly. Field trips also are proposed: a rally through the historical centre of Montpellier, a visit to an Agricultural Technical Centre, the Paris International Agricultural Show (Salon de l'Agriculture), discovery of the world of vine and wine in partnership with the Institute for Higher Education in Vine and Wine (HEV).

Programme: In accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference and the recommendations of the Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI), the course is designed to meet the needs of different levels -- from beginners to advanced -- and to prepare students for all scientific study programmes.


THE TFI® - French Language Proficiency Test (free of charge)

Montpellier SupAgro is an approved TFI® test centre.

The TFI® test rounds off the students’ study programme and allows students to obtain a certificate that is recognized and respected worldwide.
