Agri-Culture Summer School

Discover French Language, Culture & Agriculture

The Agri-Culture Summer School is an intensive two-month programme combining French language courses with an introduction to French culture and agriculture.

This exclusive experience takes place 3 July to 25 August 2017, in Montpellier. This well known, lively university town in the south of France has a rich cultural and historical heritage.

Objectives

  • Enable international students to pursue a French Engineering, Masters or PhD programme under optimal conditions by strengthening their oral and written French language skills, essential for the successful completion of course work.
  • Facilitate the integration of international students into daily life in France and at school through improved language skills and a deeper understanding of French culture.
  • Offer international students the opportunity to better understand French agriculture through a 3-week internship in a rural area.

July Programme

1st - 22nd July

An intensive French language course with a focus on agriculture (80 class hours, cultural activities). A placement test taken on arrival identifies the most appropriate group for each participant based on his or her language level.

The classes take place on Montpellier SupAgro’s La Gaillarde Campus from Monday to Friday (except bank holidays). The lessons include oral and written comprehension and production, grammar and vocabulary as well as activities like workshops, cheese and wine tasting, etc.

There is a maximum of 12 students per class.

Cultural activities include guided visits of Montpellier and Nîmes, cinema etc.


23rd - 30th July

Preparation for the internship in the farming sector. Technical activities include field trips and meetings with agricultural professionals, visits to CTIFL (fruit and vegetable research centre), a cheese dairy, a vineyard and a wine cellar, etc.

August Programme

1st - 20th August

Pre-departure session in Montpellier and a 3-week internship on a family farm in the south of France.


22nd - 31st August

Orientation Week (for Agris Mundus students) and a debriefing session.

Accommodation

Students are accommodated in Montpellier SupAgro’s residence halls located a 3-minute walk away from La Gaillarde campus.

The rent varies according to room type. Maintenance charges (water, electricity, heating, internet) are included.

Canteens

The canteen is situated on Montpellier SupAgro's La Gaillarde campus. It provides meal service from Monday to Friday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

In August

During the internship, students are hosted by the owners of the farm who provide lodging and meals. If you have any particular housing and/or dietary requirements, please specify these to the administrative staff before the internship.

During the debriefing workshop (after the internship), students return to the student residence halls and can dine at Montpellier SupAgro’s canteen on La Gaillarde campus.

• 4 days of preparation for the internship

*Not included:
• Accommodation and meals in Montpellier for July (a budget of around €100 per week)
• Other (insurance, transport)

Please note: Students in some international study programs may be eligible for financial assistance.
