Writing labour constraints per period makes it possible to model the periods of the year during which needs are more significant in a more precise manner. The solution thus shows that the labour constraint is binding in summer, contrary to that of winter during which the farmer dors not use all his working time. Maize and tomato are the most profitable crops and indeed require a significant amount of work in summer. This labour constraint in summer determines the new solution of the model and above all the fact that tomato should not be cultivated anymore. As a consequence the irrigation is not binding anymore. Income has decreased, it is now 33 571 euros, compared with 40 365 in the technique2.gms model.
Optimum cropping pattern is as follows :
cropping pattern | ||
Technology | extensive | intensive |
Wheat | 28.571 | |
Maize | 21.429 | |
Tomato |
The income is as follows : 33571.429€.
The solution model is : modelEco_labour1.gms
